I've always been greatly seduced by the elegant designs of Star Wars movies and the design philosophy behind them. The idea of this piece came to me while looking through the artbook of The Rogue One, which to me is the peak of the IP's aesthethic game. I loved how the ILM artists were able to capture the sweet spot between know and uknown tropes, take what's familiar and give it a slightly unexpected twist, making it foreign yet instantly readable, while framing it in subtle, clean and elegant shape language. It's the token of the best to be able to draw such strong references from cultures that are familiar to us and built upon them totally new alien worlds without making them too much on the nose.
My goal was to capture the same idea and follow these design principles, take what's known and recogniseable and give it a slight twist, make it a bit unfamiliar, new, intriguing, while using simple shapes and strong visual statements.
